Radiation is an important energy transfer mechanism in plasma simulations. However, resolving the radiation field and coupling it to a flow solver can be computationally expensive. This talk presents the radiative transport equation (RTE) and introduces the net emission coefficient (NEC), a simple, inexpensive model for radiative effects within a flow solver.
Joshua entered the CSEM program in Fall 2022 with a background in mechanical engineering and physics. His current research interests include computational fluid mechanics and multi-physics simulations. He is advised by Prof. Robert Moser.
